Brake Warning Light

As per the headlight adjustment, on my first drive out at night, I noticed that the brake warning light was coming on and flashing intermittently under load and certain RPM. this was quite odd, at first I thought is was something serious, but in the end it turned out to be perhaps a combination a few things.

The brake warning light comes on either if the brake fluid is low (if you have the standard cap installed in the master cylinder) or when the handbrake is pulled.

When the car is being driven, it is noisy and there are quite a lot of vibrations, which is what caused the light to come on for me.

For the first part, people on the forums advised that the handbrake switch sometimes vibrates enough that it causes this issue, so the first task was to remove the tunnel top, and bend the little piece of metal which could cause this, to ensure that button stays down when the handbrake is off. This made it better, but it still happened.

The second fix was to then open up the master cylinder and give the cap and bracket a good clean, and to slightly top up the cylinder some more.

After these two tasks were done, the light no longer came on.

Video of the issue

This video shows the issue I had under load, the camera was dangling from my harness which is why it is rather shaky!
